No Charges After Will Smith Hits Chris Rock At Oscars

News from The Battery Man: Will Smith Batters Chris Rock

Will Smith Hits Chris Rock

News: A report that Will Smith and Chris Rock have already made up has been greatly exaggerated. “Wow, Will Smith simply smacked the shit out of me,” Rock stated. “Will and Chris, we’re going to unravel that like household on the Gold celebration,” Combs stated. A moment later, rapper Sean Combs — on stage to introduce a tribute to “The Godfather” — tried to play peacemaker and instructed Smith and Rock to settle their issues at an Oscars afterparty.

Forgiven

Jada Pinkett Smith's husband, Will Smith, stormed onto the stage and slapped Chris Rock because of a joke about Will's wife Jada. You’d be forgiven for not knowing exactly what happened with the shaky camera angles and the muted audio, but Will Smith slapped (battered) Chris Rock on International TV. Needless to say, the outburst drew a flood of responses on Twitter, from jokes and memes to extra somber reminders from the Hollywood community that people shouldn’t assault comedians simply because they don't like their jokes.

Will Smith's Apology

"I want to apologize to the Academy. I want to apologize to all my fellow nominees," Smith mentioned. However, he failed to mention Chris Rock in his apology. Later Sunday night, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said in an announcement it "does not condone violence of any type."

“Richard Williams was a fierce defender of his household,” Smith stated, to begin his Oscar speech. Others, as they realized it was actual, tried to make sense of what happened. Actors like Denzel Washington and Tyler Perry comforted Smith and Pinkett Smith during commercials. On Monday afternoon, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, the governing body of the Academy Awards, condemned Smith’s actions and said it's going to launch a formal review.

No Charges

Following the ceremony, the Los Angeles police division confirmed in a statement that it was “aware of an incident between two people in the course of the Academy Awards program. The particular person concerned has declined to file a police report." The two people are Chris Rock and Will Smith, of course.

Criminal defense attorney Mark Nicholson, known as the Battery Man, because he focuses his practice on battery cases said this was a "case of privilege." In most instances, if someone hits another person against their will, they would be charged with battery. Attorney Nicholson believes because Will Smith is rich and famous, he won't get any criminal charges.
