The Nicholson Nugget

This is The Nicholson Nugget: the official newsletter of the Law Office of Mark Nicholson.   You can subscribe by clicking  here.

In this issue, I interviewed a former federal prisoner that now has his own business.  Also, I interviewed trial attorney Tarah Baldwin about her practice.

Court and COVID

I haven’t made many court appearances since the pandemic, and there was one I wish I never had to make.  I had to go to court on Thursday, September 17th, and it was for an expungement hearing. When I go to court, I wear a face mask,  a face shield, and try to maintain social distancing.   After court, that weekend,  I traveled to visit my elderly mother and some of my elderly relatives. Then Monday, September 17th, I received a call from the Marion County prosecutor’s office. They told me that I came in close contact with a prosecutor that had tested positive for COVID-19. Obviously, I was shocked and concerned.  I called my mom and relatives to let them know. Fortunately, when I visited them, I wore a mask the whole time.

Quarantine

But I had to quarantine for 14 days, which required me to take my kids out of school and file motions to continue or motions for remote hearings because I could not attend court. It disrupted my life and my practice.  Well, my 14 days of quarantine are up. I do not have COVID-19, nor do my children. We are all healthy and safe! And my client also got his record expunged.

The sad news is United States Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed away on September 18th. Ruth Bader Ginsburg, age 87, died from cancer.  Justice Ginsburg was best known for her feminist views and battle for women’s rights.

Nugget of the Month

“I try to teach through my opinions, through my speeches, how wrong it is to judge people on the basis of what they look like, color of their skin, whether they’re men or women.”
